RESMAN Intelligent Tracer® technology can be used to accurately quantify zonal inflow contribution and to monitor inflow assurance.

RESMAN provides a chemical tracer production log without the risk and cost of well intervention.

Unlike Production Logs, the answers obtained with the Chemical PLT® are not limited to a one-time report. RESMAN's solution has multiple years of life for both oil and water systems, so logs can be obtained whenever needed throughout the life of the systems.

This production profiling solution can also be used in complex subsea environments without adding risk to the project, including in long production tie backs and high-rates of commingled flow.

Quantitative Analysis

RESMAN has developed two patented techniques to quantitatively determine the inflow distribution across the reservoir interval — the Flush Out™ model and the Arrival Time™ model. These two methods can be applied during a well start up following a shut in period.

The Flush Out™ model is a proprietary mathematical technique that models the transient response of tracer concentrations generated during a well start up. The model is based on the rate of change in tracer concentration as a function of cumulative production. The Flush Out modeling process compares the measured concentrations from field samples to simulated data to identify the most representative percent of total inflow for each monitored zone.

  • Verified: in 2013, the validity of the Flush Out model was verified in a full-scale, flow-loop test with joint industry project (JIP) partners Eni and Statoil. The flow-loop test provided RESMAN with an in-depth understanding of the flow physics associated with the complexities of tracer flow in modern well completions. The results of this test demonstrated that RESMAN’s analytical model can predict flow within 5% accuracy.
  • Field Proven: The Flush Out model has been successfully applied in several projects with RESMAN systems, mostly in complex offshore and subsea environments with up to 12.5 miles of production tie back from the subsea wellhead to the production facility. In addition, the model has been used to understand the inflow contribution in multistage hydraulic fracturing applications, thereby enabling the operator to optimize well drilling and fracturing strategies.

In contrast, the Arrival Time™ model interprets the arrival of the concentration peaks of each tracer signature to determine the percent of inflow that occurs between tracer locations. The Arrival Time model applies when the reservoir interval provides sufficient distance between the sections, so its application is limited and its accuracy is inferior to the Flush Out model.

Qualitative Analysis

RESMAN Intelligent Tracers can also be used to obtain qualitative information over time by sampling producion during steady state flow. Examples of field applications include:

  • Zonal inflow conformance: (a) evidence of flow from the toe of horizontal wells; (b) confirmation of zonal clean up; (c) identification of underperforming intervals following a decrease in PI (e.g: PI decrease cause by sand fill); and (d) confirmation of flow from multilateral wells.
  • Completion integrity monitoring: (a) detection of flow from downhole sliding sleeves thought to be closed; (b) no flow from sliding sleeves thought to be open; (c) assurance of packer sealing integrity and proper actuation of flow control valves; and (d) evidence of flow behing pipe.
  • Multi-stage frac performance: (a) identification of stages not flowing; and (b) confirmation of flow from individual stages.
  • Gas breakthrough detection: (a) identification of gas breakthrough location (by correlating the decrease in RES•OIL flux over time).

RES•OIL™ systems are RESMAN's oil-sensitive systems for high flow rates. Typical applications include high-rate offshore and/or subsea wells with long tie backs and commingled flow.

  • Flow rates: up to 60,000 BOPD (higher rates can be studied on a case-by-case basis)
  • Temperature: up to 335 °F [170 °C] (higher temperatures can be studied on a case-by-case basis)
  • System life: up to 10 years
  • Pressure: up to 30,000 psi [206.8 MPa]
  • Number of unique signatures: 80 unique RES•OIL signatures*

RES•LITE™ systems are RESMAN's oil-sensitive systems for low flow rates. Typical applications include land or dry-tree wells with flow rates up to 1,000 BOPD after 1 year of well installation, including unconventionals, EOR projects and brown fields.
